How this website handles your data.

2. Overview

This website is implemented as a static site and loads no external fonts and no CDNs. For audience measurement we use the self-hosted analytics tool Matomo – cookieless and without sharing any data with third parties (see “Audience measurement”).

3. Collection and processing of personal data

When you visit this website, the web server processes technically necessary data:

Server logs: IP address, timestamp of access, requested resource, browser type. This data is collected to deliver the site and ensure its operation. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

4. Audience measurement (Matomo)

We use Matomo, self-hosted open-source analytics software, to evaluate the use of this website statistically. Matomo runs on our own server; no data is transmitted to third parties.

  • No cookies: Matomo is configured so that no cookies are set. Consent (a cookie banner) is therefore not required.
  • IP addresses are processed only in anonymised/truncated form for the analysis.
  • No cross-site tracking is performed; the data serves solely to improve this site.

In addition to page views we record four kinds of anonymous interaction – and nothing beyond them:

  • clicks on links to hosting providers (affiliate links), each together with the page the click happened on, and the copying of a displayed voucher code. We also count how often such a recommendation block was visible at all – without that, a number of clicks cannot be interpreted.
  • the inputs in the server calculator (selected applications, size, search term in the application list) and the recommendation shown as a result
  • the term you type into the site search, together with the number of results – so we can see what people look for that we have not written about yet
  • a request for a page that does not exist (error 404), together with the address you came from – the only way for us to find broken links, including our own

How far you read, which internal links you follow, whether you copy a code example or open a screenshot, and whether you use dark mode – none of that is evaluated.

These events are recorded without cookies and without any identifier that would make you recognisable; they cannot be combined into a usage profile of a specific person.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a needs-based design of the website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). You can object to collection at any time via your browser (e.g. “Do Not Track” or by blocking the script).

5. Cookies

This website uses no cookies. The audience measurement described in section 4 works without cookies; no cross-site tracking is performed.

This site contains affiliate links to hosting providers (including netcup). Only when you click such a link are you redirected to the respective provider; their privacy policy applies there. No data is transmitted to the provider beforehand.

7. Newsletter

If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store your email address, the chosen language and the time of sign-up and confirmation – the latter as proof of your consent. The subscription only takes effect once you click the link in the confirmation email (double opt-in); unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted.

The newsletter is sent roughly every two weeks, at most once a week, and contains new tutorials as well as netcup vouchers and offers with affiliate links (see section 6).

Subscribers are managed with the software Listmonk on our own server in Germany. For the actual delivery we use Lettermint B.V., Willemsvaart 16 B, 8019 AB Zwolle, the Netherlands. Lettermint processes the addresses solely on our behalf (data processing under Art. 28 GDPR); the email data stays within the EU. Details: Lettermint’s privacy policy. Opens and clicks are only evaluated in aggregate, not per person.

If you reply to an issue, your message goes to feedback@serverkueche.de; we only use it to answer you and to collect topic requests.

You can unsubscribe at any time via the link at the end of every email or by writing to the address below. Your data is deleted afterwards.

8. Purpose of processing

The data processing serves solely to provide this service and to statistically evaluate its use. No profiling and no disclosure to third parties takes place – except for sending the newsletter via a data processor (section 7).

Processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in providing and appropriately designing the website). The newsletter is based on your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time with effect for the future.

10. Your rights

You have the right to information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Please contact the controller for this purpose.

11. Retention period

Server logs are automatically deleted after 30 days. Newsletter data is stored until you unsubscribe.
